Yamba is a gorgeous small coastal town, 138 kms north of Coffs Harbour. The caravan park was right in town and right on the river. What a beautiful spot. There was a great walk path that ran in front of the caravan park – one way led to the beaches and groin and the other toward the wharf. Donna witnessed a beautiful sunrise one morning – a prawn trawler coming back to shore with the sun rising in the backyard – just gorgeous.
Yamba is known for its great seafood and the king prawns were divine! As were the fish and chips we had one night for tea from a place just around the corner from the caravan park. Probably the best fish and chips we have had all holiday.
We finally got to swim in an ocean pool at Yamba. Unfortunately the water was pretty brown due to the recent heavy rains, which brought river water into the ocean. We still enjoyed it though. However, our next swimming destination was so much more enjoyable. We went to Blue Pool at Augroine, 6kms from Yamba. Blue Pool is a rock quary, that tapped into a natural spring when being quarried and is full of beautiful fresh water. We all enjoyed our swim there. Augroine is also home to one of the best surf breaks in Australia (apparently) – Augroine Point, which is the only Surfing Reserve in Australia.
We did a fair bit of relaxing in Yamba and a lot of swimming. We are definitely in hot and humid weather now. The kids have asked when it is going to cool down - they were a bit surprised when we said probably not until we get to Coral Bay in June!
We made our first trip to the doctor in Yamba, as poor Chloe had an ear infection. She is now on antibiotics and on the mend. Don’t know what was worse for Chloe – the pain of the ear infection or Dr Hope’s instructions to avoid swimming for 3 days!
We met a lovely couple from Brisbane, Susan and Brian and enjoyed a few drinks together on night one. Thanks Susan and Brian for a lovely afternoon and for your great tips on places to stay.
Next stop Byron Bay way.
