WINDY Whyalla (13/11/11 - 14/11/11)

We left Port Lincoln to start our way up the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, with the intention of staying at Cowell.  We went into a few bays on the way - Tumby Bay and Arno Bay.  Arno Bay was a gorgeous small seaside town with a great "Pirate" park that the kids loved.  We continued on to Cowell and got a huge shock when we got out of the car - a very HOT 36 degrees!!  They had the Cowell street markets on so we had a wander, bought some books for the kids - 4 books for $1!!!  The caravan park didn't look too flash so we made the decision to keep driving up to Whyalla.  Whyalla is an industrial town for steel manufacturing.  It has a population of 22,500.  We had a camp site on the foreshore - the intention being the wind would cool us down from the heat.  Unfortunately a huge wind storm started up in the afternoon and our awning and us nearly got blown away.  The temperature hit 38 - this combined with the wind was not the most memorable experience.  Late afternoon we escaped a bit of the wind at a beautiful foreshore park - the kids had a play and Simon and I enjoyed a few drinks and nibbles.  The many kite surfers provided great entertainment.  Perfect conditions for them - some of them got seriously air borne!
