From Mt Hotham we began our descent and this is where the fun began for poor Simon. A very, very steep descent. Ian and Maxine kept watch from behind as we slowly crept down the hill. We arrived in Bright to sunshine and warmth and our van still attached and in one piece!
We were supposed to stay in Bright, but when we phoned to confirm our booking we discovered they had booked us into an unpowered site, not a powered one, so we found ourselves at the Porepunkah Bridge Caravan Park instead (6kms north of Bright). Ian and Maxine had the nicest chalet we've ever seen and the best air conditioning. So we spent most of the next couple of days there eating, drinking, catching up, relaxing, playing monopoly and eating and drinking some more! Plus the kids had more sleepovers with Nan and Pop!
The caravan park adjoined the river, so the kids had fun swimming while we ate and had a few drinks on the bank. Pretty relaxing indeed.
After two nights at Bright it was sadly time to say goodbye to Ian and Maxine. We had intended to spend the morning at Mt Buffalo with them, but it was bucketing down with rain, so instead we spent the morning at Brown Brothers Winery and a cheese factory in Milawa. Then onto Glenrowan (see separate post).
We had another two nights at Bright. Bright itself was a pretty little town based around the river, which has a "pool" with water slide, diving pool and lifeguards. Not quite as appealing to us as the beach, but popular. On our last day in Bright, we spent most of the day at Mt Buffalo (see separate post) and then took the kids to the river. Whilst there we discovered another, bigger and better water slide, which the kids LOVED! A great way to end our stay.
