On Friday afternoon we headed one hour north to Brisbane. We spent the weekend with the Taylor family, who we met at Ayers Rock earlier in our trip. Katrina, Dave, Alex, Lucas and Emily generously opened their home to us. It was so lovely to catch up again and share stories about our trips. Chloe and Ben were very excited to spend the weekend with Alex, Lucas and Emily, sleep in a “real” bed, play with toys and swim in the pool.
On Saturday, we headed into the city and had lunch with Albany expat, Mike Prior. Was lovely to catch up Mike.
On Sunday, the Taylor’s took us on a River Cat along the Brisbane River. A great way to see the sights. We stopped at South Bank – such a beautiful spot, beautiful gardens, heaps of playgrounds and many swimming pools/lagoons. Next stop, New Farm where we had a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon. The kids had a ball at the great park.
It is hard to believe that Brisbane was flooded last year. Apart from a few restaurants that have not been rebuilt and some water lines on bridges and a few buildings, there is little evidence of the massive damage caused by the floods.
What a fantastic weekend – great company, beautiful weather, lovely city and lots of eating and drinking. Thank you Taylor family for your hospitality.
