Victoria River - WA border (10/5/12)

We set off this morning, headed for WA.

First stop, the Durack Monument, on the highway east of Timber Creek,  recognising the cattle pioneering work of the Durack family in northern Australia, who arrived from Ireland in the 1850's.

Next stop, Gregory Tree, 3.5 kilometres off the highway and 15 kilometres north west of Timber Creek.  Gregory's Tree is a large boab that stands at the campsite of explorer Augustus Gregory's northern Australian expedition, undertaken between October 1855 and July 1856.  The tree is inscribed with the party's arrival and departure dates.  It was here we ran into our Darwin neighbours, the Wise family.

More driving and then we crossed the border into WA, gaining an hour and a half in the process.
