The Places We've Been

Kalgoorlie continued....

The Mining Hall of Fame was a highlight.  The kids got the opportunity to pan for gold - Ben enjoyed getting wet more than looking for gold!  Simon managed to find the kids a "fleck" of gold each (thanks David & Helen for the tip of where to find it).  We all enjoyed a tour of a once operating underground gold mine.  The early gold miners definitely had a hard life!

We found the most fantastic park - Hammond Park - a credit to Kalgoorlie.  One of the best parks any of us has ever seen.  Unfortunately we didn't discover this park until our last day - but we made the most of it - spending both lunch and dinner there.

History lesson at the Mt Charlotte lookout - the end of the Perth - Kalgoorlie water pipeline - developed by CY O'Connor.  Plus it provided an amzing view of Kalgoorlie.

The Super Pit was HUGE and amazing to think that each truck used in the mine costs $3.5 million and each tyre costs $35,000!!
